Relaxing Saturday

My day started at 5:30am, when I heard Mayita crying in her crib. I tried to bring her in my bed to cuddle and hopefully fall asleep, but after an hour of wiggling I decided to bring her out to the family room so the other kids to sleep. Vivi woke up within 5 minutes so us girls decided to watch Beauty and the Beast and snack on cherrios. 5:30 is too early to start the day on the weekend when you have nothing to do!!!! By 10am Maya was more than ready for a nap, and slept for 3 solid hours while we colored, read books, and the kids went on a walk to the papeleria with 'ita. Well-rested (at least Maya), we played out in the jardin the rest of the afternoon with water. I can't believe the miles we get out of these Schleich animals! (you can find them at Target, Toys R Us or educational toy stores, they have no lead, and kids can chew and chew on them and the paint doesn't come off). We have brought them on every vacation or long trip (China, Mexico, Houston, etc) and the kids just keep playing with them. This time I filled the little buckets and tubs with dish soap bubbles and the animals got extra clean in their super-sized swimming pools. Soon after cleaning up we had a really strong hail-thunderstorm that lasted a good hour and turned the very inclined street into a river- thankfully the house is near the top of the mountain and not at the bottom! Behind the house someone was having a wedding and we had been enjoying their music all afternoon/evening until the hailstorm- I wonder if their tents held up?

Enjoying their absolute favorite lunch: beans and rice. The "grown-ups" got to eat sopa de hongos, tacos de aguacate, and pescado a la veracruzano- yum! The avocados are special in that you can eat the peel- crazy! I am collecting all recipes in case anyone wants a copy! I am also the expert in yogurt-making (gracias Norma!) and make it every 2 days.
