Grandma's Birthday!

We celebrated my mom's birthday at one of our favorite places: the Arboretum. I'm sure for some people who live in warmer climates they like having the same weather all year (like where we might be moving!), but we LOVE the change because each season brings its own special charm and your whole body can anticipate the next season coming. What says autumn more than cooler weather, pumpkins, the beautiful red, orange, and yellow fall leaves, picking apples... we love, love, love fall. We walked around one of the ponds which was surrounded by scarecrows- every October Girl Scout troops decorate scarecrows and name them something arboretum-inspired (think Hannah Plant-ana and Miley "Cypress"). The kids painted pumpkins (Tonito's new word) and made caramel apples with ALL of the toppings available including but not limited to oreos crumbs, nuts, chocolate chips, m&m's. I'm not sure if this is the apple a day that keeps the doctor away, but it definitely tasted good! We love the Children's Garden with the different playgrounds and slides, and with such gorgeous weather we were able to spend the whole day playing.

isn't the arboretum wonderful for kids? i was just there with my niece, running around and sticking our hands in different pools of water.
